Inside the Canglang Light Tower: A 188.875m² Curved Interactive LED Floor Display in Danjiangkou, Hubei

XYGLED built a 188.875-square-meter curved, interactive LED floor display for the Canglang Light of Danjiangkou observation tower in Hubei, China. Installed with a P3.91 pixel pitch, the display follows the tower’s curved interior floor plan and responds to visitor movement, turning the walkway itself into part of the attraction.

The Challenge: Curved Geometry at Nearly 190 Square Meters

Two requirements made this project more demanding than a typical indoor floor display. First, the screen had to follow a curved layout rather than a straight or rectangular grid, which meant every cabinet needed to be engineered to a consistent arc rather than a standard flat module. Second, at 188.875m², any inconsistency in that curve — even a small one — would be highly visible across such a large continuous surface.

The floor also needed to withstand continuous foot traffic from tower visitors while remaining perfectly flat and seamless underfoot, since guests walk directly across it as part of the visitor route.

The dealership needed a floor surface that could do two things at once. First, it had to support the physical weight and rolling load of full-size vehicles, day after day, without any loss of flatness or panel integrity. Second, it had to function as a visual stage — capable of displaying brand graphics, lighting effects, and product-launch content directly beneath the car.

A static floor could not deliver the second requirement. A fragile display could not survive the first. XYGLED’s brief was to solve for both.

XYGLED engineered a curved LED floor display specifically for the tower’s interior geometry, built to a P3.91 pixel pitch and finished at 188.875m² of total screen area.

Why a curved cabinet structure

Rather than approximating a curve with straight segments, XYGLED custom-built the cabinet structure to follow the tower’s actual arc. This keeps the visual surface continuous, so lighting effects and content move smoothly across the floor instead of breaking at panel joints.

Why P3.91 pixel pitch

At nearly 190m², visitors interact with the floor from very close range — they are standing and walking directly on it. P3.91 provides the resolution needed for crisp visual effects at close viewing distance while remaining practical to manufacture, install, and maintain across a screen of this size.

Why interactive

Unlike the non-interactive floor screens used in retail staging, this installation uses interactive sensing so the display responds to where visitors are standing and moving. This is central to the tower experience: instead of watching a fixed video loop, visitors become part of the light show as they walk across the curved floor.

How the Display Is Used

Inside the tower, the curved LED floor functions as an interactive extension of the visitor route. As guests move through the space, the floor reacts to their presence with dynamic lighting and visual effects tied to the tower’s water and light theming. Because the screen follows the building’s curved interior, the effect reads as an architectural feature rather than a standalone display — visitors are walking through the light show, not just past it.
